Cultivating an Entrepreneurial Mindset: A Pharmapreneurial Journey with Emily Adamopoulos

Emily Adamopoulos is a pharmacist dedicated to making the use of functional medicine and genomics the norm in healthcare. For nearly a decade as a community pharmacist, she watched a broken healthcare system and traditional medicine fail our society. Since beginning pharmacy school in 2009, she always wanted to open her own pharmacy. Unfortunately, with the current state of healthcare, she knew an independent pharmacy was unlikely to survive, unless something changed. So she is changing it.

Both pharmacists and pharmacies have traditionally been viewed as a person or place that treats chronic diseases with drugs. The idea of traditional medicine is failing us. It’s not working. So what do you do when something isn’t working? YOU CHANGE IT.

Emily is on an entrepreneurial journey to develop her own pharmacy, the pharmacy of the future. She is using functional medicine and genomics to provide a new, individualized, patient-centered approach to care, focused on preventing chronic illnesses before they begin.

As The Genomics Pharmacist, Emily helps patients get to the root cause of illness by leveraging specific genetic, biochemical and lifestyle factors to direct personalized treatment in an effort to restore health and promote wellness.

Emily serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy and works in a rural, independent pharmacy just outside Nashville, Tennessee. She is dedicated to changing the future of healthcare and pharmacy practice. Passionate about curbing the opioid epidemic, she volunteers her time educating the community and youth on the dangers of prescription drug abuse. She and her husband, Jimmy, also own Music City Diner in Hendersonville, TN and have two children, Mary Elizabeth and Sophia.
